After ten years on loan to IMMA in Dublin, the wonderful Musgrave Kinley Outsider Art Collection was gifted to the Whitworth Art Gallery, University of Manchester, facilitated by the Contemporary Art Society.
In 1979 Victor Musgrave and Roger Cardinal curated a large exhibition for the Hayward Galley in London. This was an introduction to Outsider Art in this country and was a great success with the public. As interest grew Monika Kinley and Victor Musgrave began to build a collection, which now has over 800 works.
A selection of works from the collection will be on display in an exhibition at the Whitworth Art Gallery from 26 June 2010: Intuition: The Musgrave Kinley Outsider Art Collection arrives at the Whitworth.
