The States of Things was purchased for New Walk Museum and Art Gallery, Leicester through the Contemporary Art Society's Acquisitions Scheme for 2008-2009.
Made relatively early in Nashashibi’s career, The State of Things is a pivotal work for the artist, winning her the Becks Futures Award in 2004.
This will be the first moving image work to be acquired by the collection at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery and it will enable the museum to build upon its existing contemporary collection with stronger ambition. The work will be shown at the museum later in 2010.
With thanks to Doggerfisher, Glasgow.
