North East Members’ Prize Draw - Win an original artwork by Paul Noble

To celebrate the launch of the new Contemporary Art Society, North East membership programme, we are delighted to announce that Paul Noble has generously donated an original drawing to be offered in a Prize Draw for the first 50 members to join the new North East membership scheme*.

Born in Dilston, Northumberland, and now based in London, artist Paul Noble gained international recognition in the 1990s for his Nobson Newtown project: a fictitious town that he represented through intricate pencil drawings, sculptures, tapestries, rugs and animations. He has had solo exhibitions at high profile galleries internationally, including Whitechapel Art Gallery, London and Gagosian Gallery, New York, and his work can be seen in many major public collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art, New York and Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam.

This autumn, Paul Noble returns to his native region with a special project at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which forms part of Northern Spirit: 300 Years of Art in the North East. A temporary display is being created by the artist in response to the history of the distinctive Marble Hall Gallery.

On Saturday 23 October 2010, Paul Noble will talk about his work at the Laing Art Gallery in a special event for Contemporary Art Society, North East members.

This is part of a whole season of evening and weekend events and annual North East membership costs just £50 per year (£25 students).
