Drop-in Event – Affordable Collecting (with Own Art)

Despite the headline-grabbing prices at high profile art auctions, building a contemporary art collection need not break the bank and there are many organisations to support and guide you when it comes to collecting art affordably.

For this informal, drop-in event, the Contemporary Art Society North East is collaborating with two such organizations – Own Art and The Biscuit Factory - to offer tailored, one-to-one advice, whatever your budget or artistic preference.

Working with a network of 300 venues, the Arts Council operated Own Art scheme provides interest-free loans from £100 to £2,000 to make it easy for everyone to buy and collect contemporary art and craft. It also operates a useful ‘collecting art resource’ through its website and monthly e-bulletin.

One of Own Art’s most successful partners, The Biscuit Factory has offered for sale a consistently diverse range of paintings, prints, photography, sculpture, glass and film by both local and international artists over the past decade. Based in a vast yet welcoming 35,000 sq ft gallery in Newcastle it has attracted around 800,000 visitors from the North East and beyond since 2001.

Come along on Saturday 17 September to talk to staff from all three organisations, pick-up practical information about affordable collecting and enter a draw to win a limited edition print by Charles Avery, who has been described as "one of the UK's hottest talents and most talked about artists of recent times."

Membership
This event is part of a series of events programmed by the Contemporary Art Society in the North East. Membership costs £50 per year / £25 for students.
