Artist Talk - Alec Finlay in conversation with Grainne Sweeney

Newcastle-based artist Alec Finlay has been shortlisted for this year’s prestigious Northern Art Prize following his nomination by Grainne Sweeney, Creative Director of the National Glass Centre, Sunderland.

 

Alec’s work has previously been presented in numerous exhibitions, including BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and Yorkshire Sculpture Park. He has created public realm works, most recently white peak | dark peak, a permanent commission in the Peak District National Park and 50 apples (for Hartley Wood). This work was made in collaboration with the team at the NGC Glass Studio, Alec has also produced a special multiple, which will be sold at the National Glass Centre this Autumn.

Members are invited to join this special event, hear the artist discuss his recent projects as well as his plans for the upcoming Northern Art Prize exhibition at Leeds Art Gallery. This will also be an opportunity to view the new exhibition at the National Glass Centre, Re-Make/Re-Model, which includes work by Darren Banks, Ruth Claxton, Nick Crowe & Ian Rawlinson, Jacob Dahlgren, Lothar Götz and Amikam Toren.
