biography

Born 1966 in Bremerhaven, Germany, Jorn Ebner studied at Central Saint Martins and Universität Hamburg in the 1990s.

At the beginning his work was a performance-related sculptural activity with actions in the public realm; beginning to work with internet technologies in 2000, he embarked on a series interactive works. Lee Marvin Toolbox was awarded the Kunstpreis des Medienforums München 2001. In 2002 he was awarded a three-year AHRB Research Fellowship at the University of Newcastle. He now lives in Berlin. Ebner's work has featured in New Media Festivals, public art projects and international exhibitions. He is represented by Vane in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Landscape and cityscape; the use of space, the handling of art as a tool; an experimental and process-orientated approach are at the centre of Jorn Ebner’s work that consists of a variety of media including drawing, audio or online works.

Internet and related technologies have often been the main formal framework but his work has a strong focus on sound and drawing. His sound works re-visit and modernise musique concrête, field recordings and soundscapes as a way to capture contemporary cityscapes. His drawings are often intended as ‘thought papers’ and sometimes ‘instruction sheets’: here the mostly electronically drawn pieces reflect the use of electronic media in contemporary life, intending to blur the boundaries of analogue and electronic drawing. His works are often inspired by music, literature or cinema as means to make sense of life; his works of art are a continuation of their way of offering solutions to attempt understand existence.
