statement

"I incorporate a play of light and optical illusion together with a sense of transience in particular sites or happenings. I make extraordinary presences out of ordinary materials and everyday experiences: a flock of one hundred plastic birds hover above a city roof; a straight rainbow appears on the Pentland Hills; a word search wall contains 6000 words; a greenhouse makes the world rose-tinted. By using often familiar, off the shelf materials I prompt the viewer to reconsider the world in which we live, even if it is just for a split second.

I am currently working on 'Trip the light fantastic' which will light up empty windows and dark corners in Archway, north London from January to March 2010. I am working with over a hundred local people who enjoy dancing to celebrate a lightness of step and how light can reveal the fantastic. This project is commissioned by Byam Shaw School of Art in partnership with the London Borough of Islington and supported by Transport for London."
