biography

Alastair Mackie was featured in Contemporary Art Society's ARTfutures 2007 and 2008 held at Bloomberg SPACE, London.

Born in 1977, Mackie has shown his work extensively in the UK and abroad and is widely collected. In 2004 Charles Saatchi purchased a number of his pieces for his ‘New Blood’ exhibition at the Saatchi gallery, which lead to his first solo show with London based dealer Max Wigram later in 2005. Last year he had his second solo show, Not Waving But Drowning, at The David Roberts Art Foundation. Concurrently his first public out door piece, Mimetes Anon, commissioned by The Contemporary Art Society was exhibited at the Economist Plaza in St. James's, London.

Other group shows include The Art off Chess at the Reykjavik Art Museum, Iceland, Dead or Alive at the Museum of Art and Design in New York, and Living in Evolution at the Busan Biennale 2010.

Alastair lives and works in London and Cornwall and is represented by All Visual Arts.

statement

Alastair Mackie’s work draws on ideas to do with primal urges, science, belief systems, and time while pointing to a broader exploration in to the relationship between man and nature - challenging our awareness and convictions about the boundaries that separate the two.

In making he plays with the idea that a statement can be made through the simple re-positioning of a thing and is interested in the conversation between material, form, and context and in exploring the tension between the back story, process and end point. Materials can be anything.
